Albiston, Isobel Shirley, 1921-1995 : Diaries and autograph book

1916; [1928], 1934-1952

Diaries kept by Albiston from 1934 to 1943 and 1948; also autograph book compiled while she was attending Wellington East Girls' College (1934-1935). Albiston begins the series with a note in the 1934 diary `The diary of Isobel Shirley Albiston from 27 May 1934 to 26 May 1935, being the record of the deeds and thoughts of her 14th year'. Albiston did not use the diaries as they were printed but on the days she recorded in them she wrote very full entries filling in her activities since the previous entry. In her schoolgirl diaries she wrote about her thoughts and feelings as an adolescent, her teachers and friends at school and in the later ones about the people she worked with and her working and social environment. She noted with comments the books she'd read. As she grew older her entries became more philosophical.
